HOW TO CREATE A PRODUCTIVE AND PLEASANT HOME OFFICE ENVIRONMENT

Working from home is now the new normal. If you’d like to stay productive and succeed at your job during these unprecedented times, creating an office environment is essential. But how do you do this? Whether you’ve worked remotely for years or are new to it, these home office decor ideas are sure to inspire you.

1. SELECT A WORK ZONE

In a perfect world, you’d be able to work from home with zero distractions. If you have kids or a spouse, you know that this is not possible. The good news is you can keep distractions to a minimum by dedicating a certain spot in your home to use as an office. This spot can be a spare bedroom, an unused formal living or dining room, a loft, or a comfortable corner in your bedroom. Get creative and think about the places in your home that don’t get a lot of foot traffic and usage.

2. DON’T DISREGARD THE POWER OF A DESK

Let’s be honest. You’re less likely to get anything done if you spend your work days on the couch or even worse, your bed. That’s why a desk or a workstation that functions like one is absolutely essential. While purchasing a new desk may not be viable at the moment, you have other options. Use a dressing table as a temporary work desk. Don’t have either? No problem! You can always use your dining room table.

3. OPT FOR SEATING THAT SUPPORTS YOUR BACK

Yes, sitting on a comfy couch or your bed while you’re working sounds nice. Unfortunately, however, doing so for long periods of time can wreak havoc on your posture and strain your back or neck. If you don’t have a spare office chair lying around, you need to find an alternative seating option that will support your back. Take any seat you happen to have and put a pillow on it. You can also roll up a towel and place it between your lower back and the seat. These ideas can provide your back with optimum support and prevent strain.

4. ALLOW FOR CALMNESS

A calming ambience is the key to starting every work day off on the right foot. Keep a few aromatic candles near your home office. You can also add indoor plants, rocks, or shells to bring the outdoors inside and create a more tranquil space. Other options include using pretty bowls or vintage boxes to hold office supplies and hanging up a picture of a beach or anything else that makes you feel at ease.

5. ENSURE PROPER LIGHTING

You won’t be motivated to work in a dark or gloomy atmosphere. So try to set up your home office in an area that gives you access to beautiful natural light. Consider placing your table or desk right near a large window. Just make sure you position it facing north or south so that the sunlight doesn’t cast a shadow and make it impossible for you to work.

An unfriendly and clinical home office can impair your ability to perform your job well during this time. Given that you may work remotely for quite some time, your goal should be to make it relaxing, inspiring and pleasant. Best of luck in your work from home journey!
